FENG SHUI GARDEN

My top feng shui tips to help you achieve balance through your garden.

Gardens are extremely important in feng shui. Garden design is a complete feng shui topic and to achieve harmonious feng shui garden, there are certain guidelines to be followed.

In garden design, most important is considering the form of the garden - from analysing the plot, its shape, to size and access. Depending on the form of the garden, suitable flow of energy or chi can be recommended - through planting and positioning of garden features.

In feng shui garden assessment, also depends if a garden is a front or a back garden.

Front is associated with possibilities, career opportunities, the future and wealth, whereas the back garden has a role of holding the chi - holding on to good opportunities, providing protection, health and ability to store chi (goods, assets, wealth, health).  Usually a front garden should be smaller in size and a back garden can be larger.

In both cases, a solid fencing or hedging is suggested to hold on the chi, not to fall away. The fencing needs to be appropriate hight, as we do not want to block our front. Too tall fencing in the front, would represent blocking the future, hence the opportunities can not come your way. On the other hand, if the fencing is too low at the back garden, the property can not store the chi and can't offer sufficient support. This would result in poor health and difficulties with finances.

Besides form analysis, orientation of the garden needs to be considered in feng shui consultation. Orientation and location, relating to the entire property. Orientation is determinated using the lopan - a feng shui compass. After several measures of garden, a feng shui analysis can be done and suitable suggestions made to improve the flow of chi, removing blockages and encouraging a positive flow of wellbeing and abundance.

A feng shui garden is actually the most important part of any property, as it is the outside. It has a much more powerful effect on our health, wealth, general wellbeing and luck, as the indoor does. So, a garden is the starting point of any proper feng shui consultation.

Garden is really a map of the family's relations, strengths and weaknesses. Each part of the garden is related to a certain family member, as well as specific body part, an organ, aspect of life, skill, and so on. Based on property's form & compass reading analysis, I can determine any possible leaking of chi and problems. Those are always reflected in life of the occupants who are residing at the property.

Feng shui garden is a tool to bring a vital and nurturing energy into the house, through the door. First, a garden needs to have supporting energy to be able to provide it for the house. It is crucial to achieve balance in the garden first. Moreover, a garden holds a possibility to balance and correct anything that is not right with the property/ building in terms of feng shui. This is an advantage that apartments lack. In case of feng shui for new-builds, the gardens are an extension of support system that a property will be providing to the occupants.

General rules for a feng shui garden:

  • Take good care of your garden, so it will take care of you

  • Make sure there are healthy plants in the garden

  • A variety of plants is always good, as it adds more vibration, more energy

  • North-east of your garden should not be overgrown. Put lightning in that area and use red or pink flowers, such as roses.

  • North-west should not have rubbish or toilets. Keep it nice and well kept

  • South is the general leader of the current fate and it deserves your special attention. Again, no rubbish, toilets or broken things in that part. Also, do not use many red or pink plants in this part. Avoid putting a grill in this sector.

  • East and South-east should have lower planting. Nothing overgrown in this sectors. It is best to keep this part as open as possible.

  • South-west is one of good options for a vegetable garden.

  • Children would be most supported in the East or South-east part of the garden, used for their playground.

  • The best location for any water feature (such as a swimming pool, a pond or a fountain) is the North at the moment. Note, that the water placement is a very specific and detailed art in feng shui and it needs to be placed with care and awareness. Water is a very strong element and if placed in the wrong location, it can have very fast negative effects.

  • Make sure your garden makes you feel relaxed and happy.

  • Avoid too many spiky plants in your garden, such as cactuses and palm trees.

  • Use, enjoy and take care of your garden to stimulate positive chi.
